Default GuildWars: E3 2005 Report

E3 2005 Report
http://www.gwonline.net/page.php?p=142
Quote:
- the game has topped the charts across Europe and in the US, with similar success seen in the Korean beta with over 500,000 accounts created.

- Content creation continues, with plans to utilize the live streaming technology to add updates to GW throughout the Summer. Planned additions include everything from items, to monsters, to new areas and more.

- Full features are in the works too. One example is the Observer mode technology slated for a Summer release, allowing users to watch matches between teams in HoH, GvG, etc.

- The two new explorable areas, Sorrow's Furance and Grenth's Footprint, are scheduled to be released in approximately 2-3 weeks, marking what will be the largest live update to Guild Wars yet.

- The second "chapter" of Guild Wars is already underway, with a very loose estimated release of the first half of 2006. According to Jeff Strain, it's very likely that players will be offered a preview of chapter prior to its release.

- On the competitive front there's some serious developments. Within the next two- three weeks there should be a full release of details on an upcoming global tournament that is scheduled to kick off during the Summer. From the sound of it, plans are for the tournament to run through to some point in Fall, but full details are forthcoming.

Observer mode sounds good

Yeah, it does. Gives you a way to see your opponents' strategys.

The two new zones sounds fun, too. Maybe there's some new loot to be found there.

IMO observer mode for your own guildies only or the option to make it public or not would be good. Having everyone learn your uber build right away could be bad if you're the one making the build but good for everyone who wants to copy it.

Content creation and new explorable areas is what's got me stoked. While PvP is cool, I'm an adventurer at heart.

Hmmm. They initially said we would have a major expansion every six months or so. That estimate changed to 6-9 months after launch. Now it is the "first half" of 2006, which could be longer still.

This is a great game. I hope they don't spoil it by a glacial expansion rate the way some recent games have done.

I just hope they don't charge gold for tickets to watch. This game has become money (gold) making for players in game.

With the no monthly fee prompting a release to help infuse them with cashflow I would predict if anything a slighty smaller "chapter" than the size of the orginial game but within the 6-9 month range.

Actually, read back through interviews. You'll find that the "6-9 months" was stated a lot earlier than "after launch." Many press and fans latched onto the "6 months" and completely forgot about the "6-9 months" that has always been referenced. 6-9 months as a reference estimate (remember that word: estimate) was mentioned at least a year ago if my memory serves me.

umm..

I would imagine you would get a few more missions out of that.

I believe so. These updates sound exciting, but I am a little dissapointed about a lack of guild hall updates. My guild is saving over 100K for one of those stinking things, I hope they make it more than a pretty hangout.

A new chapter(expansion) was said to be the size of the original game. New mobs, areas, storyline missions ect.

In the streamed update coming shortly, I wouldn't expect too much storyline involved. Lets hope they give us something more than territory and quest. MORE HAMMER GRAPHICS. Be great if they added in the other zones in Temple of Ages as well. Perhaps they will. Grenth already offers a 1k zone in from Lornar's.

I'm with you boran, my biggest wish on the wish list is for a practice arena in a guild house. That would easily make it worth all the effort in my book.

ummm.........

doesnt *a pretty place to hang out and meet with the guildies* describe a guild hall?

Gaile mentioned the possibility of some items to personalize the place with *a moose head over the fireplace* as an idea

I thought you could already practice PvP on the guild Island, is that not true?
